{Beauty} May Beauty Favourites

Thursday, June 5, 2014

One of my very favourite features on the beauty blogs I read are their monthly favourites videos. If you haven't seen one before, it basically consists of a beauty blogger sitting in front of a perfectly styled, perfectly lit backdrop, dishing on what products tickled their fancy that month. Sound kinda trivial? Nope, it's awesome. I always end up with heaps of products I want to try, plus I get to satisfy the curiosity of my inner voyeur who always wonders what products other girls use. The point of my preamble? I'm getting on the monthly favourites bandwagon, only minus the whole video component... for now at least (winky face). So without further ado, here are the products I especially loved during the month of May!

*MAKE UP FOREVER HD PRIMER (#7): I'm not typically a primer girl, but I've pretty much used this stuff on the daily since getting it. I'm not sure how much it actually helps my makeup glide on and stay in place, but what I do love about it is the "glow from within" finish it induces. And with summer well on the horizon, a girl's gotta have some dew.

KIEHL'S ULTIMATE STRENGTH HAND SALVE: This stuff is like miracle in a bottle, because my hands seriously feel like sandpaper without it. For whatever reason my skin has been particularly dry this past month, so I made a point to stock up on the stuff, and basically slather it on hourly (I'm rubbing some on to my hands at this very moment). I've also used it to rejuvenate my elbows, knees and cuticles, so how's that for multifunctional?

*TWEEZERMAN'S BROW MOUSSE + SPOOLIE: My regular ol' brow gel was a little worse for wear, so I swapped it with this clear gel from Tweezerman and have been loving it all month long. It makes my brows stay in place without getting crusty or sticky, and that spoolie rocks the kasbah because it has a cap that keeps it nice and clean on the go... legit.

MILANI's 'FRUIT PUNCH' + MAC's 'PLEASE ME' LIPSTICKS: What can I say, I've been having a nude moment in the lip department, and these two have been in heavy rotation. The MAC version is super long-lasting, matte and pigmented, giving that perfect 'your lips but better' finish that I've really grown to love lately. And the Milani shade is that, only slightly more amplified, with a soft, creamy pink finish and that Bubblicious scent I love so much. This shade really warms up my complexion but still looks quite natural, so it's definitely been a favourite.

THE BODY SHOP'S VITAMIN E EYE CREAM: I'm a serious eye cream snob, so believe me when I tell you that this stuff is good.  It's light yet super nourishing, and it does a number on those pesky dehydration lines. I like to throw it in my bag so I can reapply it throughout the day when I'm not wearing concealer... Not to mention the fact that it's super affordable, which is always a bonus.

THE BODY SHOP'S ALOE LIP CARE: This stuff is da balm (ba da bum cha!). When I think of Body Shop lip balm, I generally think of those fruity little pots that we all had growing up, but their recent lineup of skin and body care has made me think twice about the brand. This balm in particular has made me a convert, because this stuff means business. It goes on nice and thick, and if you apply it before bed, it's still there in full force come morning. It's every bit as awesome as the NUXE Reve de Miel that everyone goes on (and on) about, but for half the price. In a word — amazing. xx
