{DIY} Statement Necklace for Spring

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

I was in Michaels recently looking for beeswax so Mr. AiF could make beard-tamer (true story), when I spotted a box of cute and colourful gems... Needless to say, a statement necklace was born. This one is super easy (and light weight!), so give it a try if you're looking for a fun way to spruce up your accessories collection for spring. Here's what you'll need:

Gems | Plastic (I used Shrinky Dinks scraps) | Glue | Scissors | Hole punch | Jump rings | Chain

Start by playing with the gems until you find the pattern and colour combination that you like. This part probably took me the longest — there's just too many possibilities!

Once you decide on something you like, glue the gems to the plastic using a strong adhesive. Press firmly to secure the two together, then wait at least 20 minutes for everything to dry.
Carefully cut out the shapes, leaving a small square flap at the top of each pendant. Using a hole punch, make an opening on each flap so you can connect the pendants to your chain.
Secure each pendant to the chain using jump rings and boom! You're done.
Thanks for reading lovelies, and if you want to see more projects incorporating gems like these, let me know in the comments below! xx
