I know, I know. I've been posting a lot of cut-offs lately, but I can't help it! They're perfect for a casual summer look and go with almost anything. How good do they look here styled with layered necklaces and an oversized button down?

{DIY} Neon Bead Tassel Necklace

Tuesday, July 1, 2014

I'm really feeling tassels these days, so I figured I may as well translate that into a fun necklace for summer... Mission accomplished. This beaded beauty reminds me of the World Cup for some reason (just me?), so I'm really feeling it right now, despite the fact that my team lost... Sorry Greece, but if it's any consolation, you still have a super hot goalie... But enough about that (seriously, is it hot in here?), back to business. I had bought these beads from a local bead store last year,  and finally putting them to work sure felt good — even if it took forever. So if you feel like whipping up a tassel necklace (or a tassel anything, for that matter), here's how!

SUPPLIES: NEON BEADS | THREAD | CARDBOARD OR PRICE TAG | SCISSORS | JUMP RINGS | CRIMP BEADS | CLASP | PLIERS

TIME: 20 MINUTES | DIFFICULTY LEVEL: EASY

Using a piece of cardboard or a price tag, start by wrapping embroidery thread around the length of the tag, about 25 times over. Snip the end off, then cut another piece of thread to wrap under the top section of your tassel-to-be. Add a jump ring then tie the thread several times, making sure it's secure.

Once that's done, closely snip the ends off the top, then cut the bottom section in half to liberate your tassel (so dramatic).

Cut off another piece of thread and wrap it around the top-end of your tassel, knotting it several times to keep it secure. Trim off any excess, then even up the ends... Ta da! Tassel time. Repeat this process at least three times, setting the finished tassels aside.

Use crimp beads to keep your string of beads in place, then add your final jump rings and clasp to finish things off. Then simply attach your tassels and you're done! That is, unless you have a change of heart midway through the project (ahem) and decide you want to add a few more tassels in a contrasting colour... Who does that?

Ok now, for reals this time, add all your tassels to the necklace using those handy jump rings of yours and call it a day... done and done.

Thanks for reading friends, and I hope you liked this super easy DIY!

two easy DIY's!

Monday, May 5, 2014

I've taken a bit of an unexpected blogging break... It's been hectic here with running my business and taking care of my daughter and all the times I've tried to sit down and blog, I just get pulled into something else as my husband and I are still working on getting our home decorated as well.  And to be honest, if I'm not working, I want to spend every moment with Layla.  She is at such a fun age where she is doing new things every day and I just love being with her.  But I am going to come back eventually, I have no idea when but hopefully sooner rather than later and I want to thank those of you who have stuck around and are still reading!  You guys are the best!

Instagram is the easiest way for me to do any kind of social media these days so would love to have you guys follow me over there (and please do let me know your username as well!  I would like to follow my readers/followers back but a lot of your accounts are private so don't want to intrude.)

I put together two fairly easy DIY's that I wanted to share.  Even a busy mom like myself has time for these!  The first is a mongram tray.  I've been wanting one for awhile but I haven't been able to find any that are reasonably priced and the ones that I did find were not quite my taste.  I was shopping at Target and (of course as you do at Target, you see random things and think "I need that!) which is how I came across these stickers.  I knew I had to do something with them so I brought them home and thought about what I could use them for and voila! A monogram tray popped in my head.

The sticker brand is called "Thickers" and they are a nice quality sticker that sticks up a little bit but not too bad that you can't put stuff on top of it.  There are a ton of fonts and colors but I've been on a gold kick lately so of course had to get the gold ones.  The tray I got off Amazon, it is this exact tray and it also comes in a variety of sizes and colors so you could really customize your tray to exactly how you like it!  It looks great on our table and so easy to add a few items to decorate with.  I don't use it to carry food so not sure how it will hold up if you put a cup on it and water gets on the stickers but for decor, it is perfect and for being about $25 total to make the project, it's well worth it!

Sorry for the grainy photo here, I literally took this photo at 2am.  I had bought these polka dot vinyl decals about a month ago (mine are the 4" ones) and knew it was going to take some time to put them up so I kept on putting them off until one night after I put Layla to bed, I was determined to just tackle it all in one night!  The decals themselves are very easy to put on.  It's the measuring of the wall, the distance between your dots and trying to get them spaced just right is the hard part.  I absolutely love how it turned out though and my office is that much more fun with this wall!
My biggest tip is to cut all the circles individually (it comes in a whole tube like wrapping paper, just cut squares so you can see the circles on the backing).  It's a pain in the ass but you will thank me later when your line of dots are not on all crooked.

My steps:
1. Measure your wall and determine how many circles you can fit on the width (the entire width so like you'd be laying circle next to circle) split that in half so you now know how many circles you will be using and how many spaces in between.  From there it is much easier to determine spacing between the circles.  (You will have to adjust numbers depending if you want smaller spacing but this worked out for my larger spacing)
2. Once you have the approximate measurements, use painters tape to tape up your circles (you still have not removed it from the backing yet) and mark where you want all your circles.  Stand back and make sure the lines are not crooked or spacing is off.  After you are happy with that, now you know where exactly to put the circles.  Start peeling off the backing and go for it!

I will say that I did have a few mistakes but the circles were very easy to peel off and put back on.  They are not reusable but they are removable.  So if you make a mistake it will be easy to peel off and put back on right away but if you leave it for a few days, you probably won't be able to reuse it after that.

This is hands-down one of the best casual summer street style shots I've spotted lately. While I love her slouchy white shirt and vintage cut-off shorts, what really sets this look apart is the subtle metallic detail from her silver sandals.

Lookbook: BFD

What I'm Wearing
Madewell Cords - I have a few cords from other places but Madewell cords are the softest and comfiest.  The printed cords are also on sale.
Roberto Del Carlo Boots - I get asked about these boots a lot but I bought them a few years ago and I don't think they make them anymore.  They do still make a few similar styles like this and also these boots.  (If you guys haven't shopped Yoox before, they are a great place to get designer stuff for cheaper, you often have to dig but they do have some great off season styles there.  Like these gorgeous Givenchy pumps!)  These Alexander Wang OTK boots are seriously gorgeous!
Balenciaga City Bag - I call this my fall bag as I never seem to carry it until the fall.  It's just the perfect fall color!  I just saw this Balenciaga cross body and I love the shape!

Was having a BFD = bad face day so I cut off my head in the last picture, it was too awful to look at.  LOL. Just one of those days you know?  Anyway, finally getting over my cold and feeling back to normal.  I hope you guys are having a great start to your week!

Random Friday: Beauty Faves and J Crew Sale

Friday, February 15, 2013

Just throwing a few random things into a post :)
I posted my nails on my instagram and facebook the other day and had a few people ask for a tutorial. Well, no tutorial is needed as these are stickers!  Just paint, stick, cut the sticker to your nail size, top with a top coat!  The easiest nail design ever!  I got mine from this Etsy seller but if you do a search for "Chevron Nail Decals" you'll find a bunch of options.  They don't last very long (mine last around 4-5 days) and you'll have to re-apply the top coat to keep the edges from curling but I still think they are worth it for the cute and easy nail design.  (Bracelets are from my jewelry line)

My latest make up routine includes the most amazing mascara ever.  Benefit's They're Real! Mascara is quite possibly the best mascara I've used in my life.  Since I've been using this, people comment on how long my lashes are constantly.  For an added fullness to my lashes I've been adding 2-3 individual falsies at the corners of my eyes.  I've long given up the strip lashes that I used to love when I was younger but these individual lashes are the perfect amount to give your eyes just an added look of fullness to your lashes.  They also blend in so well with your real lashes that people can not tell that you have falsies on.  Along with the mascara, it's an amazing combination!  (I should mention that I use regular lash glue so I can take them off at night, not the stronger glue that they recommend with individual lashes - you have to use a special remover to get that glue off!)

Here's a few photos with the mascara + lashes combination.

J Crew is currently having a 30% off sale promo so here are a few that I tried on in store that got a thumbs up from me.  Not all are available online so I suggest checking in store as they had quite a few different styles than online.
Tippi Sweater (available online in solid)
Boy Shirt (available online in plaid)

And my bow coat is on sale as well but looks like they are sold out of the pink.  Lookbook details here.

My jewelry line is also celebrating President's Day with an additional 30% off sale!  There's lots of styles perfect for spring!  Use code 30SALE.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
