iPhone #OOTD (Winter style!)

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Some outfits that made it to my instagram but not on the blog...

Always bow obsessed (as you can tell from my recent post).  I'm loving our new bow bangles (have you seen the crystal encrusted ones?  My new fave!)  The J Crew cardigan is from last year but still a favorite.

Husband got me some new shoes for Christmas.  I call them my "mommy shoes and date night shoes"  I'm still a heels girl (even when I'm pushing a stroller) but for those days when I'm out running errands and just carrying Layla around I need something a bit more practical so I love the Nike Sky Hi's with the hidden wedge.  Still makes me a bit tall but very comfy to run around in!

I've worn this sweater too many times to count this winter.  I love the bright red lips, even if Layla does attempt to rip each rhinestone off every time I wear it.  It's on sale now!

Bracelets: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4

A new necklace and one that always gets compliments whenever I wear it!

My new printed jeans have been a great alternative to just regular blue jeans.  And I haven't worn any of my blazers all winter (blazers are so hard to wear under winter jackets!) but luckily stayed inside most of the day for this outfit.

I was glad to have bought the Hunter x Rag and Bone boots early in the fall but funny enough it hasn't rained that much this year!  But the times that it has been a downpour I'm thankful to have these boots.  They really are the best for rainy days!

A recent outfit I wore to the office and then out shopping.  Easy and comfy!  Love the hearts and my very old OTK boots!

I haven't been much of a vest girl until recently and realized just how warm they really do keep you.  Also, after putting this post together, I do realize I wear way too much J Crew :)

A typical arm stack and the cutest studded hair tie.  I don't even want to tie my hair back with it, I just like wearing it as a bracelet!

I randomly came upon these leather-like leggings at Target and I can't even tell you how obsessed I am with them.  They are one of the best faux leather leggings I've come across!  Only the front panel is "leather" the back is just a ponte type fabric but man they are so comfy and look so good.  AND they are only $19.99!  I'm going back to Target just to get another pair as I think I may wear these ones out!

{WW} Nothing to Hide: Oversized Dressing

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

It's no secret than when it comes to dressing, I like to borrow from the boys.Oversized silhouettes offset by slim-fitting tops or bottoms are so effortlessly chic — not to mention far more comfy than their binding counterparts — that I just can't get enough. Case in point: The oversized coat. Now I don't know if you've noticed, but my outerwear is increasingly getting bigger and bigger... In fact, you'd be hard-pressed to find a style blog out there that hasn't adopted the trend. So when it comes to incorporating jumbo coats into your wardrobe, I thought I would show you two of my favourite combos: Casual vs. professional.

Boyfriend jeans- Blank NYC | contrast sleeve coat- ASOS

The first look is a weekender's dream, with loose layers and zero-to-no effort for maximum chicness. Wear it for coffee with the girls, shopping or a trip to the library, and you'll look as good as you feel.

Look two is a little more polished, perfect for the 9-5er who wants to look put-together on the go. Swap the skirt for a form-fitting dress or tailored pant, and you'll be the cutest girl at the office.

If you want to read more on the oversized trend in general, check out this article I wrote a few weeks back, and as always, happy Wardrobe Wednesday!

Lookbook: Golden Globes Inspired

Monday, January 13, 2014

Did you watch the Golden Globes last night?  Oh goodness, so many pretty looks on the celebs last night!  These are my favorite looks, love everything about them!
all photos via yahoo

I was also inspired to create my own red carpet look out of my own closet.  My inspiration for the look was all these gorgeous black and white looks!  I love color but I think when you want glamour, you can never go wrong with a classic black and white look.
all photos via yahoo

Of course I'm not walking a red carpet but my look works perfect for a dinner with my girlfriends.  I'm just loving the different ways I can dress up this dress but adding a classic blazer with a leather lapel was the perfect twist that I needed.  And of course you can't do Golden Globes without lots of gorgeous jewelry so had to add a few of my sparkliest pieces!

Got some questions about this dress from my haul post and size wise I got the Size M as I've found SheInside can run small in their dresses and I was correct with this one as it fits just right.  For reference I'm typically a size 0 or XS in most brands.  The quality of the skirt part is nice and thick with just the right amount of "poof".  The top has a leather-like lining at the top that makes the neckline a bit wonky but I solve that with either wearing another top over it or covering it with a big necklace like I did here.  For a less than $40 dress, I'm happy with it!

After Christmas Shopping Haul!

Thursday, January 9, 2014

After all my Christmas shopping was done I took advantage of all the sales and got myself some fun stuff!  Wanted to share while they were still online as I love everything I got!

I already have the heart elbow patch sweater but thought I needed the red one for the holidays :)  I always need stripes in my closet and love the added detail of the fun shaped elbow patches.  It's funny because I own only a few regular jeans, all my jeans are colored or printed.  I liked these Chevron jeans on the photo online so tried them out.  When I got them I was a bit iffy but after I put them on, I was sold.  I like that it's a bit more subtle than my other printed jeans and the fit is perfect.

Right now I don't wear dresses as often as I'd like to.  As a nursing mom I'm always trying to figure out what to wear that I can nurse in easily so most dresses are out of the picture.  But my husband and I do still try to have date nights without the baby often so that's when I can pull out my dresses.  I love the drop hem and the color of the one on the left and the black and white stripes is too cute, I can layer a sweater over the top to make it look like it's just a skirt.

A little bit of bling always gets me!  I love these for every day wear and they are super cheap with J Crew's additional 40% off sale items!

The heart sweater is actually a crop sweater which I wasn't expecting when I ordered it and I'm not usually one for crop anything but it actually is pretty cute with a white tee underneath.  The gold LOVE sweater is a new favorite.

Another printed blouse to add to my closet but I do love heart prints so I couldn't resist.  It's a great top to layer underneath a sweater and just have the collar pop out.  The faux leather skirt is really cute on, it kind of flares out.  I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up a bit so I can at least wear it out with tights!

I love a good conversation starter, so to kick off another theme week (yay, Christmas!), I thought it would be fun to feature this battle-scene dress as a holiday option.... because why wouldn't you sport violent scenes from antiquity on Christmas? My thoughts exactly. So should you find yourself at a holiday fete where you don't know anyone, a dress like this should help break the ice. And if that doesn't work, just ask people what their favourite herb is — it works every. single. time. xx

SheInside Fall Picks and Giveaway

Monday, October 21, 2013

A change in seasons means another opportunity to update the wardrobe. I know I’ve been cleaning out my closet to make room for cozy sweaters, jackets and boots! I’ve had pretty good luck with SheInside items, and love some of their items for fall.

1.) Black Short Sleeve High Low Dress  Love the movement of this dress! This is a great take on the high low dress trend, I’d pair this with my favorite boots for an easy look.
10.) Black Contrast Leather Leggings  It’s difficult to find the perfect pair of leather leggings (real or faux), but I like the mixed material combination on these. Plus, they’re super affordable, so it’s a great price to try out the trend.
2.) Striped Heart Elbow Patch Sweater  I’m a sucker for heart details, and the heart elbow patch is adorable. This is also a great stripe shirt for your collection of staple pieces.
1.) Beige Ruffles Sweater Love the ruffle details on this sweater! Also love how Olivia Palermo styled it in the picture with leather leggings and flats.
2.) Black Cardigan Sweater  Drapey sweaters are so flattering. They make you look chic without even trying, this is a great version.
3.) Embroidered Bead Knit Sweater Huge fan of cozy sweaters. Pair this embroidered one with a skirt and boots and you’re good to go.
4.) Grey Contrast Leather Sleeve DressLove this take on a simple sweater dress. The leather sleeves really updates this look, and it’s the perfect canvas for accessorizing!
5.) Apricot Lace Pleated Chiffon Dress  It’s never too early to start shopping for all the holiday parties. I love the beading at the top of this dress and it’s just so flirty and feminine!
6.) Tweed Shift Dress  Fall fashion is all about layering and this tweed dress is a great foundational piece.

And a treat for you guys!  A giveaway to win $150 credit to do your own shopping at SheInside!  Enter with the widget below and I'll choose a winner next week.  Winner will be announced on this post and contacted by email.

Summer Dress Shopping Haul!

Monday, August 26, 2013

Towards the middle to end of my pregnancy, I hadn't bought anything for awhile but I finally gave in and went shopping because I was feeling pretty terrible about a) being gigantic and b) not being able to fit into anything in my closet.  Since I was about a month away from my due date, I figured I needed to get through this last month somehow.  Well, thank goodness Layla decided otherwise and came early so I'm not having to worry about dressing such a gigantic bump anymore but I am dealing with this post pregnancy body that is definitely a transition phase and not the easiest to dress for either.  Luckily all the things that I bought work for it so wanted to share what I got!

I love the dresses that I got from SheInside.  The lace crochet dress is super pretty and roomy enough that worked well with the bump but now hides the extra tummy flab that I'm sporting these days :)

And the adorable dress behind it is this cheeky little dress that is not typically my style but I just thought it was too cute and had to try it out.  I love it!

The butterfly maxi was my favorite thing that came in the package!  It was totally the perfect thing to wear during these hot summer months and it's quite flattering on!  I will have a lookbook up with it soon.  And the lace top behind it is supposed to be worn very baggy but looks great with leggings or a slim skirt underneath.

The dresses I got sold out pretty fast so here are a few dresses from SheInside that i'm loving...

I hit up forever 21 for some cute stretchy knits.  I love the black and white prints as I can match them with any bright tops in my closet.  I got the neon sweater which is great on it's own but loved pairing it with the tank dress for an easy and cute outfit.

And what I love about the black and white patterns is that it's so easy to add a statement necklace to it to dress it up a bit.  We added these new pieces to our latest collection and I just adore them.  The lucite necklace is one of my favorite pieces and I get compliments whenever I wear it.

I’ve really enjoyed shopping their site – most items are really affordable and they ship worldwide for free! They also have a huge selection of items, and I’ve picked out some of my favorites!

1. Pink Sleeveless Hollow Back Zipper DressLove the cut-outs on the top and the bottom of the dress. They’re enough to make the dress be special, without going overboard.
2. White Spaghetti Strap White Butterfly Print Chiffon Dress  Maxi dresses are so versatile and I really like the print on this one! They’re such an easy way to be comfortable and glamorous at the same time.
3. Black White Short Sleeve Zipper Floral Dress Another great print! The floral print plus the black/white contrast makes this dress playful and sophisticated!
4. Orange Sleeveless Asymmetrical Hollow Pleated Dress  Orange is such a great color for summer, it’s bold and flattering on most skin tones! Pair this with flat sandals for the day, and heels for night.
1. Blue Loose Pockets Skirt SkortsSkorts remind me of elementary school, but there are some really chic options now! Plus, I really like the idea of wearing a cute skirt, and not having to worry about any accidental showings!
2. Yellow Collarless Long Sleeze Zipper SuitSuch a great color! Would look great with a t-shirt, jeans and sandals for an easy weekend look.
3. Pleated Chiffon Skirt I actually just got this, you'll see it in a lookbook soon (here's a preview on my instagram) but I adore the color and the length.
4. White Short Sleeve Hollow Dipped Hem Chiffon BlouseI’m a sucker for girly blouses like this. It’s playful and would look great with a colorful pencil skirt.

Thank you to my awesome intern for helping me take these pics! :)  We went out for lunch and then I asked her to snap a quick outfit pic for me.  I'm not one for fancy backgrounds or whatnot, I just like to capture my outfit so wasn't really paying attention to the background behind me but a man who was smoking a little farther down the wall was watching us the entire time.  After we were done snapping the pics he said to us "What's so special about this wall?"  He was absolutely confused as to why I would want a picture by this wall!  I just said "Oh nothing" and then smiled.  He was still looking at the wall even after we walked off.  LOL!

SheInside $100 Giveaway!

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

I partnered with SheInside to give away a $100 gift certificate to one of my fabulous readers!  I have a few favorite pieces from SheInside, namely this stars dress and this sweater dress and I always find new goodies there.  Prices are reasonable, shipping can sometimes be super quick but it can also be slow too.  I just order stuff knowing that it may take awhile so I'm never in a rush to get it.  Sizing wise, I'd say mostly runs smaller to true to size.  Quality wise - pretty comparable to H&M and Forever 21 but I find that they have great quality knits, like the sweater dress I have is very thick and warm.  I'm always finding cute new stuff to add to my cart, here's what I have my eye on now.

I thought it would be fun for you guys to get a chance to shop there too so enter in the widget below for a chance to win the $100 gift certificate. Giveaway will end a week from now.  I'll be contacting the winner by email and announcing on this post.

{Style} Spots & Stripes...

Friday, October 12, 2012

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

It's been depressingly cold here in Edmonton lately, so I decided to rebel against the oppressive temperatures by putting together a fun, "printy" little outfit (albeit under layers of outerwear, but still). Stripes and navy always remind me of spring, so by wearing them today I symbolically told winter to take a hike... And I'm pretty sure the pop of leopard speaks for itself. Boom.

Happy weekending, friends! xx
